With benzoin, black pepper and bergamot essential oil

These shampoo bars are made from a blend of carefully selected oils designed to nourish and condition your hair and scalp and add body and volume to your hair. It can be used as a soap for the whole body as well as the hair, so is ideal for travel.

I have been experimenting with natural shampoos for a while and I LOVE this recipe! It creates a rich lather and foams beautifully on your hair. This bar is 100g and will last much longer than a plastic bottle of synthetic shampoo. It comes wrapped in recycled/compostable tissue paper and so is 100% waste-free!

This blend of oils with soothe dry, itchy scalps and conditions the hair to make it tangle-free and easy to brush even whilst wet. No separate conditioner is necessary.

To use, wet hair thoroughly and lather the bar in your hands before applying to hair. Rub the bar from roots to tips of hair until a rich lather is formed. Rinse thoroughly.

What is in Bee Pure's natural shampoo?

Castor Oil

Castor oil has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties and is high in vitamin E, minerals, proteins, and omega-6 and -9 beneficial fatty acids. Its unusually high ricinoleic acid ratio makes it beneficial to skin and hair. Castor oil can be used on the scalp to help prevent and remedy hair loss. Its antibacterial and antifungal properties make it beneficial against follliculitus, dandruff, and scalp infections and its ricinoleic acid content helps increase circulation to the scalp and improve hair growth. Ricinoleic acid is also said to help balance scalp pH which can also help replenish the scalp’s natural oils and undo some of the   damage of harsh chemical hair products. The antioxidants in castor oil also support the keratin in hair and help make hair stronger, smoother, and less frizzy. When used in a shampoo bar, castor oil helps to increase the foam, making a good lather on your hair.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet almond oil is rich in vitamins, including vitamins B1 and B6 which are known to promote hair growth. It also contains vitamin E which is an antioxidant and is also known to impact hair growth by repairing hair follicles and keeping them healthy and free of inflammation. Sweet almond oil will also smooth the cuticles of your hair, controlling frizz and enhancing shine.

Organic Shea Butter

Shea butter is a natural moisturiser which is rich in Vitamins A, E and F, which help keep the skin healthy and can promote healthy hair growth. It has natural anti-inflammatory properties and can be helpful in relieving symptoms of certain skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis through its high moisturising abilities for skin, scalp and hair.

Organic Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is often referred to as the ultimate hair conditioner due to its benefits on the hair, making it softer, silkier and shinier. It can even help to treat split ends and dandruff due to its moisturising and anti-inflammatory properties. Coconut oil also helps to make shampoo or soap bars foamy, giving a luxuriously creamy lather.

Organic Cocoa Butter

Rich in anti-oxidants, cocoa butter is known to have a healing affect on burns and inflammation on the skin. It has a rich moisturising affect on the hair and scalp when used in shampoo bars.

Beeswax

My favourite ingredient; I could literally talk about the healing properties and benefits of beeswax all day long. It is high in vitamin A, which has been found to support cell reconstruction and health, is naturally moisturising and very gentle on the skin and has anti-inflammatory properties making it ideal for skin irritations such as itchy, dry scalp, acne, eczema or rosacea. Beeswax forms a protective barrier, helping to lock in moisture and protect against environmental pollutants such as traffic pollution and cigarette smoke without clogging pores.

Avocado Oil

Avocado oil is good for moisturizing dry, brittle, and damaged hair. It's also great for deep conditioning, strengthening hair, and adding shine. The vitamins, amino acids, and high fat content promote healthy cell growth and are great for maintaining and healing dry, itchy scalps.

So now do you see why you don’t need a separate conditioner?  :)

Additional Information: Using a Natural Shampoo For The First Time

Commonly available commercial shampoos contain a multitude of chemicals which strip the natural oil (sebum) from your hair. This oil is produced in the hair follicle in the scalp and distributed along the hair shaft when you brush your hair. Frequent washing removes the natural oils and can cause the hair and scalp to become dry, which in turn can cause dandruff or itching.
Making the transition to a more natural hair washing regime is not completely straightforward, however. There will be a period of adjustment for your hair (and you!) whilst your hair and scalp get used to the new routine. You may notice that your hair is more greasy than normal, as the sebum is not being stripped away every day or so, or you may even notice your hair feels drier than normal.
This transition phase could last anything from 2- 6 weeks but hang in there! It will be worth it. Less plastic bottles in the bin, less chemicals on your body and down the drain, more natural hair and scalp. Your scalp will produce a healthy amount of oil which will nourish the hair shaft and make your hair look and feel glossy and healthy.

Things you should know when you transition to a natural shampoo

•    You only need to shampoo your hair 3 or 4 times a month (yes really!). You can rinse it with water in the shower, or even use a natural dry shampoo such as baking soda if it feels greasy in between washes.
•    Brush your hair. Lots. One hundred strokes a day. Ask your gran (or Enid Blyton): brushing distributes the natural oils along the hair shaft and makes your hair healthy and shiny.
•    You don’t need a conditioner. Natural shampoo bars contain luxuriant oils which will condition and nourish your hair so you will be able to brush it easily whilst wet without a conditioner.
•    You can however, use a home-made conditioner which will nourish you hair after washing, and will remove any residual chemicals from synthetic shampoos. You don’t need it to de-tangle your hair. Mix 1 part apple cider vinegar and 3 parts water, mix in a spray bottle. You can add a few drops of your favourite essential oils if you wish. Spray and massage into your scalp and ends of your hair, and rinse well. Your hair will not smell of vinegar when dry.
